How should activated carbon be stored?
Unlike food spoilage, activated carbon deteriorates due to a decrease in adsorption capacity. This is not a matter of time but caused by external factors. Therefore, there is no strict shelf life. Manufacturers usually recommend a shelf life of 2-3 years, and proper storage conditions are the key.
Dry environment
The warehouse needs to maintain low humidity and good ventilation.Sealed Packaging
Keep the original waterproof packaging of the product intact and sealed. After use, the bag should be resealed immediately.Stay away from pollutants
Do not store with chemicals, solvents, oxidants, or odor sources.Avoid high temperatures
Store in a cool place, away from heat sources and open flames.Stacking requirements
Bagged products should be kept at a certain distance from the ground and walls (a moisture barrier of more than one meter). If this is not possible, they can be placed on a pallet to prevent moisture absorption. The stacking should not be too high to prevent crushing of the charcoal particles.
By using proper storage methods, we can greatly increase the shelf life of activated carbon. If conditions are unfavorable (such as damaged packaging, humid environment, or exposure to direct sunlight), its adsorption efficiency may be greatly reduced even if it has never been used.
